Inspiration for a Series: What if Past Lives are Parallel Lives?

When I paint I think about many things but mostly I think about life and why we are here. I think about my choices in life and what inspired them. I think about events in my life that led me to certain ways of thinking. I think about where these influences come from and how I can change them if I desire to become someone new. These are things I truly have been thinking about since childhood. Perhaps it’s a love of science fiction that opened my mind but I’ve always been fascinated by existence and identity.

This is what inspired my interest in past lives as well as parallel universes. As I think and learn more I’m starting to understand that as time is not linear, meaning we humans made up time to essentially track things but God/the Universe/the Creator Spirit/the Quantum Field (whatever your beliefs), did not create time. As the understanding and exploration of this continued I now wonder if everything is existing all at once. As if every version of ourselves, those that may have occurred in another place and time—a whole other life, are potentially not in our past but existing right beside us.

Deep thoughts for studio time? Possibly, but through this thinking I have come up with a way to become another version of myself. I look at my return to art as the art itself. Getting married in 2022 and taking my husband’s last name was a big step for me. I looked at it as an opportunity to be reborn into a new life, with new thinking, and releasing the things that bound me in the past. I viewed this ritual as stepping to an alternate reality version of myself that lives another life as a thriving and successful artist. I feel as though I am crossing the veil into this other version of me. I wonder if the version of me I’m stepping away from continues on, carrying out more of the same in the other life.

This is what inspired the PAST LIVES collection. From all my original paintings I have created several digital collages, the possibilities are limitless and infinite in how they can be combined. Just like the collage you see above. Prints will be made in limited edition and then to bring it into the present, I am also creating NFTs for each that will be sold on the blockchain. This is just the start and I am pretty excited to see how it all unfolds. I have little glimpses of the future. I can see that things will grow and change is ways that I never imagined.

As always, thank you for being here with me on my art journey. I hope that you have something, a dream, that calls to you to be fulfilled—and you get to it! Then you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

We are all here to do something and this something is the something I have wanted since my earliest days. So I’m stepping into her and these studio notes are my documentation of this.
