Perfect is a Mind-Made Idea

As the paintings begin to take shape in the PAST LIVES series, I am feeling more aligned with feelings of optimism and trust that all will work out as planned.

My art is very spiritual in nature, not necessarily aesthetically speaking but rather, the inspiration behind it. How could it not be? I am a spiritual person, not a perfect person—a spiritual person. There is a difference.

I used to believe that if you were spiritual you were “good” but that was quickly proven wrong though various encounters with people on my spiritual journey.

When I think go being good, I immediately think of perfect. Perfect is a mind-made idea that we believe will elevate us to the Gods, the heavens, to something beyond our lives here on Earth. It’s an illusion and one that often leaves us feeling unsatisfied, as if our lives mean nothing—we mean nothing, unless we are “perfect” and “good."

The PAST LIVES series is not about perfection.

It’s about the beauty of our messy human journey and the lost dreams that whisper to us in the night. The soul carries a message throughout the ages and our many lives. Roads left untraveled but perhaps still part of the plan; someday, somewhere, start to unfold when we listen to our heart.

The dust, the decay, and the remains left behind cannot keep the soul’s purpose from making its way to the surface to be known; if not in this lifetime, then the next.
